Russell T. Davies likes working with who he likes, and one of those folks is composer Murray Gold.

Doctor Who announced today via their website (and Twitter) that Davies is bringing Gold back for the upcoming season. This is far from the first time the two have worked together: The composer first worked on Doctor Who with Davies back in 2005 and stayed on the series for the next twelve years, leaving in 2017 at the end of Peter Capaldi’s tenure as the titular character.

Gold’s impact on the show is indelible, not only for his reworking of the theme song but also because he revamped the scores for two of the Doctor’s most formidable foes: the Daleks and the Cybermen.

“I’m so happy to be invited back for another joyful ride in the TARDIS,” Gold said in a statement. “I didn’t think twice. Working with Russell and his team is just a pleasure.”

Gold will be working with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales (both of whom are pictured above). He’ll also, of course, be working once again with Davies, and is the latest crew member from Davies earlier run on the series coming back to the show. What will Gold bring to the new theme for Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor? And will the Cybermen and/or Daleks, which will most likely make at least an appearance in the upcoming episodes, get a revamp as well? He’ll also be scoring the theme for the new villain in town, a musically inclined character played by Jinkx Monsoon.

The upcoming Doctor Who Christmas Special will stream on Disney+ in the United States.
